1st Grade students are introduced to a Religion textbook series, Sadlier. The textbook nurtures each student’s relationship with Jesus and facilitates each child’s faith response. Students learn the truths found in Sacred Scripture and Tradition in accordance with the Church. They attend weekly Mass with student participation in readings and choir. First graders also perform one of OLPS' Faith Traditions, The Passion Play, close to Easter. Family and friends of 1st grade are invited to attend the special performance.
2nd Grade religion class prepares students for the Sacraments of Penance and Reconciliation and the Eucharist. They continue with the Sadlier series which focuses on all the Sacraments and seasons of the Church Year. They attend weekly Mass with student participation in readings and choir. In May, Catholic 2nd graders are given the opportunity to receive the sacraments of Penance and Reconciliation and Eucharist alongside their classmates. A special Mass is said with a reception to follow. This is one of OLPS' most cherished Faith Traditions.
3rd Grade continues to teach how Jesus gave us the Church and the Sacraments through the Sadlier textbook. They learn additional prayers, how the church will continue to grow, and how to apply their religious knowledge to their daily lives. They attend weekly Mass with student participation in readings and choir.
